A major thesis of Engineering Thinking is that engineers — because of the discipline imposed by the scientific method — tend to get things right, more often than not. That may be generally true, but we are nonetheless subject to the hubris which generally afflicts the human race; i.e., because we have been very successful, we think we know it all.

But we don’t.
